Leading Australian
independent label Bloodlines
has finalised a deal with US music licensing company Sugaroo!, which will see
the LA-based company become the label’s exclusive synchronization agents in
North America.
Bloodlines – founded by Michael Gudinski and Warren Costello, and part of
Gudinski’s Mushroom Group – represents some of the most iconic names in
Australian music.
Bloodlines General Manager, Dean McLachlan, met with a number of the leading
licensing companies in the US before partnering with Sugaroo! “In some ways our catalogue is uniquely
Australian, but at the same time many of the artists we represent, such as
Jimmy Barnes, Hunters & Collectors, The Angels, Sherbet and Jet, have been
generational pioneers for the push into the North American market,”
Mr McLachlan says.
“Our roster is deep and it is
also diverse – it includes Archie Roach, The Triffids, Troy Cassar-Daley, The
Birthday Party, The Church, Yothu Yindi, Ash Grunwald, Baby Animals, Boom Crash
Opera and Mondo Rock, among many others. And as soon as I walked into the
Sugaroo! office I knew it was the perfect home for them. Michael Nieves has
built a team of incredibly passionate music people, and I could instantly feel
the respect for our music.”
Founded by Michael Nieves in 1999, Sugaroo! is a music licensing and
artist/label services company that represents independent labels, artists and
music publishers for visual media licensing (TV, advertising, trailers, film
and video games).
“To say that I was delighted
when Dean McLachlan reached out to me about partnering with Bloodlines and
their amazing roster would be a gross understatement,” Mr Nieves
says. “Sugaroo! has been
working with a wide range of Australian artists for more than 13 years, so we
are well versed in the incredibly deep well of fantastic and license-able music
that emanates from that gorgeous country. My team and I are thrilled and
honoured to work with Bloodlines and their roster of legendary Australian
artists, and happily welcome them into the Sugaroo! family.”
Sugaroo! was one of the first independent synchronization music companies in
the US and continues to be one of the most respected music licensing companies
worldwide. In its 20 years of operation, Sugaroo! has successfully completed
more than 10,000 music licensing deals.
Bloodlines’ 2019 releases include Jimmy Barnes’ record-breaking number one
album My Criminal Record,
Russell Morris’ Black and Blue
Heart, Ash Grunwald’s Mojo,
Stephen Cummings’ Prisoner of
Love, Archie Roach’s Tell
Me Why, and The Black Sorrows’ highest-charting album in 29 years, Citizen John.
The label’s 2020 slate includes new albums from Mark Seymour, James Reyne,
Diesel and Richard Clapton.
